'Navigators:' Free advice to find the best health coverage options

Signing up for a health plan can be overwhelming. There's a lot of information to process and variables to consider. That's where trained "navigators" can help make sure you pick the right plan for you and your family at the best price.

With help, says Sammy Leah, of the NC Navigator Consortium, "You don't have to think of health care as this huge, unaffordable weight on your shoulders."
Most people can get an ACA plan for $10 dollars a month. Others may be eligible for a plan with no monthly fees after the expansion of Medicaid took effect Dec. 1.

Advice from Leach and other "navigators" to help find coverage is free.

"We don't take money from consumers. We don't take money from insurance companies. It's all about making sure that you give people the correct information so they can be informed when they make their decision," he said.
"It doesn't matter if you don't qualify or aren't eligible for Medicaid, let us know and we'll look up to see what you are eligible for, what subsidies you can get and how you can get affordable health care," Leach said.
