Green Road Library to close for renovations this weekend

The north Raleigh library will reopen in fall 2012.

Green Road Community Library in north Raleigh will close at 5 p.m., Saturday, for several months for a major renovation.

Plans call for a new roof and heating and air conditioning system, along with some interior improvements such as new carpet and paint, more lighting, a new customer service desk and the relocation of computers closer to the service desk.

The 6,000-square-foot library on Green Road just off Capital Boulevard opened in 1997 and serves 465,000 visitors per year, according to a Wake County history of its libraries.

According to Wake County Library's Facebook page, every book checked out of Green Road between now and Saturday will have an extended due date of Oct. 27, 2012. Every book checked out means one less book that library staff must pack for the renovation.
