CONCORD, N.C. — Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, about 30 minutes from Charlotte, will reopen to the public this week.

The grand opening date is set for Thursday, Sept. 17. The hotel and indoor waterpark chain also will be rolling out new safety measures aimed at keeping guests and workers healthy during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our guests, pack members and community has long been our guiding principle at Great Wolf Lodge. We have been working to develop and implement comprehensive reopening plans based on guidance and protocols recommended by the government and CDC, and we’re excited to get families back to having fun with confidence because of the new safeguards we put into place across our resorts,” said Murray Hennessy, Chief Executive Officer for Great Wolf Resorts, in a press release.

Those safeguards include:

  • Operating the 402-room resort at 50% or less occupancy. Reduced occupancy will give guests more space and allow for social distancing.
  • The new so-called CleanPlus Experience that involves frequent sanitation of touched surfaces across the resort, using hospital-grade disinfectants. In guest rooms, special attention will be paid to areas such as door handles, light switches, in-room phones, thermostats and television remotes.
  • A face covering requirement for guests ages 5 and up in all public spaces of the resort except when they are engaging with the waterpark attractions. Guests can ask for a free mask at the front desk.
  • New hand sanitizer stations throughout the resort.
  • Contactless payment options, including a resort wristband that can be used for purchases.
  • Remote food ordering with pick-up options, so guests can eat in their rooms.
  • Wellness and temperature checks of all resort staff.
As Great Wolf Lodge points out, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there "no evidence" that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of "recreational waters" such as public pools, hot tubs and water playgrounds. The key is to maintain social distance from others and take other measures, including wearing a mask when you can and washing your hands.
More information about the new health and safety measures and how to make reservations are on Great Wolf Lodge's website.
