As I wrote earlier this week, our big event at North Hills is next week.

We'll be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, with all sorts of fun and free activities, including a Stroller Strides class, visits from the Carolina RailHawks' Swoops, the Chick-fil-A cow, a fire truck, a fun activity from Lil' Chef, a performance from Rissi Palmer and more. Read that earlier post for more information.
We'll also be collecting school supplies to donate to the ninth annual Wake Boys & Girls Clubs' Pencil Drive. The group, which serves 4,500 Wake County kids with after school programs, summer camps and other activities, is collecting the items for needy kids.

As parents know, the school supply list is long at many schools and can get pretty expensive. On Wednesday, we'll be collecting the following items as part of the Pencil Drive to help some local kids out. Items can be new or used.

• Backpacks
• Lunch Boxes
• Glue sticks
• No. 2 pencils
• Boxes of Tissues
• Markers
• Colored Pencils
• Safety scissors
• Construction paper
• Poster Board
• Index Cards
• Markers
• Crayons
• Construction paper
• Graph Paper
• Folders
• Lined paper
• Graph paper
• Blue or Black Pens
• Red Pens
• Highlighters

• Binders

Of course, you can launch your own drive to donate to the clubs. They'll be collecting all donated items from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Aug. 22, at the Raleigh Girls Club, 701 N. Raleigh Blvd., Raleigh.
