RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is ordering all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff in tribute to a soldier who died last week.
The gesture is in honor of U.S. Army Sgt. Joseph Zygarowski, who died during a traffic accident at Fort Bragg on April 19. He was 24 years old.

The order lasts until sunset on Wednesday, April 26.

"Our hearts are with the family, friends and loved ones of Sgt. Joseph Zygarowski, who lost his life at Fort Bragg," Cooper said. "Today and every day, we are grateful for the selfless service our soldiers give to our country."

Sgt. Zygarowski enlisted in the Army in 2018 and was a mechanic assigned to the 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary).

The Army Accident Investigations is reviewing the case of Zygarowski's death.
