Fire show, hypnotist among new N.C. State Fair attractions

RALEIGH, N.C. — From a Vegas-style comedy hypnotist to a fire artist, the North Carolina State Fair is introducing some new attractions this year.

The fair runs Oct. 13-23 at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.

The Brad Comedy Hypnosis Show, which is will be at the Waterfall Stage daily, features comedy hypnotist Brad Matchett hypnotizing volunteers from the crowd for family-friendly fun.

Ember Fire Arts will perform nightly at Heritage Circle. The show will include fire eating and more scorching fun.

Other new attractions:
  • Straw Sculptor Brian Sobaski - See him create works of art outside of the Agri Supply Exposition Center
  • Agri-cadabra: The Magic of Agriculture - This show will celebrate agriculture near the Administration Building at the end of Kiddieland
  • Heritage Circle Cider House - Head over Heritage Circle near Gate 8 to see 5th generation apple farmers from Hendersonville. Cider Pressing demonstrations are at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
  • Hog Diggity Dogs, and More - This family-friendly attraction near Gate 10 will have fast-paced shows with lots of animals.
  • N.C. Forest Service Educational Opportunities - Each day head up the hill from Heritage Circle between Gates 6 and 7 for various activities that celebrate the forest
  • Steve Trash - Rockin' Eco Hero - Watch this master of making trash disappear daily on the patio of Dorton Arena near the Waterfall.
The fair announced last week that the Friday, Oct. 14 would be NC Beer night at the fair's Public House inside the south lobby of Dorton Arena. The event is 5 to 8 p.m. and will include a variety of local craft beer and brewing education.
In addition to the new attractions, there are five new rides to check out.

The Air Maxx takes rides on a high-flying and even sideways journey above the Midway, while the Crazy Cabs keep you on the ground, but spinning around in circles.

The Techno Jump features long arms that bounce riders up and down and even backwards. The Wave Swinger 2 is a take on the classic swings. The WipeOut takes 12 passengers on a fast, twisting and turning ride.

New fair rides list:
  • Air Maxx - 6 tickets - Riders must be 48 inches or taller
  • Crazy Cabs - 4 tickets - Riders must be at least 48 inches tall to ride alone and 42 inches tall when accompanied by an adult.
  • Techno Jump - 6 tickets - Riders must be 48 inches or taller
  • Wave Swinger 2 - 5 tickets - Riders must be 48 inches or taller
  • WipeOut - 5 tickets - Riders must be 48 inches or taller
