Fire at multi-family apartment building in Durham displaces 2 residents
Around 11:30 p.m. Friday night, firefighters responded to a fire at a multi-family apartment building on Junction Road in Durham.
Posted — UpdatedA fire at a multi-family apartment building at 322 Junction Road has displaced two people.
Around 11:30 p.m. Friday night Durham Fire Department said the building had a fire showing in the upstairs apartment window. They said the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes and around 37 firefighters were on the scene, along with Durham County EMS.
Officials said the fire was contained to one apartment, which sustained fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout. No other apartments were damaged by the fire, they said.
The American Red Cross has stepped in to help the two people who lived there. One of the residents was downstairs at the time of the fire and was treated by Durham County EMS on the scene, but was able to remain in her apartment.
The fire appears to have started in the kitchen area and the cause is still under investigation.
