DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Parks and Recreation is rolling out a mobile recreation program it's calling the Fun Caravan for three dates in July and August. The goal is to bring activities to various parks across the city and offer fun, active, and recreational experiences for families with children up to 12 years old.

Kids will take part in unstructured activities, weather permitting. All kids must be supervised by a caregiver who is at least 16 years old.

Because of the pandemic, some special protocols will be in place, including increased cleaning of equipment and surfaces and limiting the number of participants to 20. Because of the participation limit, pre-registration is required for both participants and their caregivers.

Online registration is open and will close the morning of the program date unless space is available, according to a press release. Be sure to visit the registration site before you go to make sure there is space.

Here's the schedule. Each day, there will be two time slots—from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • July 29, Lyon Park, 1200 W. Lakewood Ave
  • August 5, Northgate Park, 300 W. Club Blvd
  • August 12, East End Park, 1200 N. Alston Ave
You can register for the program on Durham parks' website.
