Monday, April 12, is Drop Everything & Read Day, and Kidzu Children's Museum will be doing just that with storytimes every hour on its Facebook page.

According to the American Library Association, Drop Everything and Read Day, or D.E.A.R. Day, aims to encourage families to set aside at least 30 minutes a day to read together.

It's held on author Beverly Cleary's birthday each year, and the event's spokesperson is, of course, her popular character, Ramona Quimby. Cleary died in in March at the age of 104.

On Monday, Kidzu will be offering virtual storytimes every hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. That's a total of eight different stories read throughout the day.

You can watch them live on Facebook or watch the recordings on your own time later.

Here’s the schedule of readings:

  • 9:00 AM - “The Incredible Book Eating Boy” by Oliver Jeffers
  • 10:00 AM - “You are the First Kid on Mars” by Patrick O’Brien
  • 11:00 AM - “All the Birds in the World” by David Opie
  • 12:00 PM - “Boy and Bot” by Ame Dyckman
  • 1:00 PM - “Coyote Moon” by Maria Gianferrari
  • 2:00 PM - “A Fairy Friend” by Sue Fliess
  • 3:00 PM - “Is this Panama?” by Jan Thornhill
  • 4:00 PM - “Here We Are” by Oliver Jeffers
More information is on Kidzu's Facebook page. The museum is in Chapel Hill.
