Dozens of crashes reported Sunday in Wake County

Law enforcement responded to dozens of crashes on Sunday, after wet weather impacted the roads.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Law enforcement responded to dozens of crashes on Sunday, after wet weather impacted the roads.

As rain fell in Holly Springs, a driver hydroplaned and ended up in a ditch full of water.

State troopers said a creek near New Hill Road overflowed and flooded the road.

The driver made it out safely. New Hill Road was closed between Cateswood Court and Ancient Oak Drive because of the flooding.

In Raleigh, 36 crashes were reported on Sunday from midnight to 2:30 p.m.

One crash was on New Hope Road, where a driver hit several cars before running off the road and hitting a tree.

A spokesperson for Raleigh police said it was unclear how many of Sunday's crashes were related to icy or wet roads.

Then, on U.S. Highway 1 near Shearon Harris Road, two cars were involved in a crash.

One car had front-end damage.

In Fuquay-Varina, a crash tied up traffic on North Main Street.

Several cars were involved in the crash.
