RALEIGH, N.C. — A new, one-of-a-kind art exhibit officially opens Thursday in Raleigh’s Dix Park.

Wings of the City is a nine-piece traveling exhibit from Mexican artist Jorge Marín.

"He (Marín) wants to connect with the audiences and the human values and pertain to all of us," said Sandra Benito with the Jorge Marín Foundation. "It doesn’t have an a nationality -- as we all are humans, we share these values.”

The exhibit's debut is another move toward the city's plan of transforming Dix Park into a destination. Plans for the 300-acre park include a waterfall wall built from local stone material and custom-designed play elements for adults and children. Planners want Dix Park to be the "Central Park" of Raleigh.

The art will be installed in the park until March.

The exhibition was brought to the Triangle through a partnership between the City of Raleigh, Consulate General of Mexico in Raleigh, Jorge Marín Foundation and the Dix Park Conservancy.

A grand opening and celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Grove at Dix Park, accessible from taking Umstead Drive from Lake Wheeler Road to the Chapel Event Center.

The celebration of Mexican culture will feature live music and four food trucks. The event is free.
