After battling kidney failure for three years, an Indiana father got a lifeline from a special friend.

"My life has been extended and it's all due to my daughter," said Jorge Berry.

In 2018, Jorge had no energy during a vacation. When he arrived home, he found out he has stage 2 kidney failure.

His daughter, Jourdyn Berry, was in New York City at the time. She got up with the transplant team at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

After months of testing, Jourdyn was deemed a match for her father. Jorge had a successful surgery in May.

"I often think about how lucky I am to be able to donate to my dad because there are so many people waiting for treatment every day and so many people waiting for that life-saving match," Jourdyn said.

Now, Jorge will be able to visit Jourdyn after not being able to travel for three years.

"He's just missed out so much on not only his life, but mine as well," Jourdyn said. She added her dad helps with family, his soccer team and other children at a local school.
