DURHAM, N.C.A new COVID-19 testing site opens in Durham on Thursday, and you don't need an appointment.

The new testing location opens as others across the Triangle fill up quickly and as the percent of positive tests reaches its highest level in North Carolina.

As a result, SHAE Medical has announced a partnership with Accu Reference Medical Lab to provide a drive-thru, no-cost COVID-19 testing and clinic site. Appointments are not needed, but you can pre-register online to save time when you arrive.

The office is located at 5306 N.C. Highway 55, Suite 105.

The drive-thru testing site will be open Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. According to organizers, you won't need insurance to get a PCR test, and results will be available in 24 to 36 hours.

"This will be a “no cost site,” meaning if a patient has a copay requirement from insurance it will be waived and no cost to uninsured patients," a press release states.

The site will also be open Saturday, Jan. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Find another testing site

The state Department of Health and Human Services has a link to help people find a no-cost testing site in their area.
You can also visit one of Wake County Public Health's five COVID-19 testing sites, although long lines are frequent.

Currently, every county in North Carolina is red on the Centers for Disease Control's transmission map, which means the rate of community spread is high.

The percent of tests coming back positive is at its highest point ever along with the number of COVID-19 infections.
