Posted — UpdatedASHEBORO, N.C. — The North Carolina Zoo is closed to visitors, but you can still see the animals.
Using the hashtag #ClosedButStillCaring, the zoo is posting live videos and updates on its Facebook page as it continues to care for animals during the coronavirus outbreak.
The zoo has not announced its reopening date, but Gov. Roy Cooper on Monday closed schools until May 15 and banned gatherings of more than 50 people.
In the Facebook Live videos, staff members are sharing educational tidbits about the animals and encouraging questions from viewers, which may be answered in real time.
Other zoos and animal sanctuaries, like Carolina Tiger Rescue in Pittsboro, are offering virtual visits as well.
