As updated boosters become available, the state Department of Health and Human Services say coronavirus in wastewater particles are up.

The particles are up 4% week over week, data from DHHS showed. Particles appearing in wastewater can signal how quickly the virus is spreading, even if people don't get tested or have symptoms.

The good news is all other COVID-19 metrics appeared to be down. Data showed there were 8% fewer new cases than the previous week and 10% fewer people were hospitalized.

The BA.5 subvariant continues to be the dominant strain in the state. It accounts for 82.% of cases. The subvariant has been the dominant strain in the U.S. since July.
