A Cary police officer was involved in an accident early Friday morning, according to police.

A Cary police officer was involved in an accident early Friday morning, according to police.

Cary police confirmed that one of their officers was involved in the accident, which happened around 2 a.m. near N.C. Highway 54 and North Harrison Avenue.

At 2:14 am, a Cary patrol officer was traveling through the intersection of N. Harrison Ave and Chapel Hill Rd when the driver of a Kia Sorrento failed to stop for a red light and collided with the police car.

Neither the officer nor the driver of the Kia were injured. Both were evaluated at the scene by EMS as a precaution.

The driver of the Kia has been charged with failure to stop for a red light.

The scene cleared just before 4 a.m.

The Cary Fire Department and Wake EMS responded to the scene of the accident.
