The virtual event is one way to replace the church's annual Ladies Legacy Tea where hats and gloves are option, but tea attire is encouraged.

CARY, N.C. — In the fall, First United Methodist Church of Cary members offered up a virtual opportunity to make biscuits just like they do at the N.C. State Fair. Instead of whipping up their famous biscuits at the fair, which was closed because of COVID, they sold kits that included ingredients and offered a video with instructions on how to make them.

It was a huge hit. The kits sold out. And 300 people purchased access to the video alone with the recipe and instructions. (My family was lucky enough to purchase a kit, and we had a lot of fun following along with the video to make some really yummy biscuits!)

Now, ahead of Mother's Day, members of the church's United Methodist Women are at it again with a mommy or grandma and me online biscuit and scone-making class. The on-demand videos with instructions on how to make both are just $7 per class. Orders must be placed by May 5. On May 7, a shopping list and link and code for the class will be sent via email. Go to this link to order.

The virtual event is one way to replace the church's annual Ladies Legacy Tea where hats and gloves are option, but tea attire is encouraged.

"This year because of COVID, we can't enjoy this fellowship together for Mother's Day," Kara Hand, one of the organizers, tells me. "We normally have multiple generations participate. This spring we are offering a biscuit and scone class so mom, grandma and kiddos can make a tea tray together and enjoy either together or spaced."
