It was a quiet fall last year as far as children's performances go with the N.C. Museum of Art closed for construction of the new building.

But the museum is open. And its children's performance series is back. The series brings some great performers to Raleigh. And it's cheap! Just $3 per ticket. The Saturday performances are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and last no longer than 55 minutes.

Doors open 30 minutes before each performance. And I always like to get there a little early to get a good seat. Performances are recommended for kids ages 5 and up. But these are often pretty interactive performances and often appeal to younger kids. Free make-and-take crafts are offered as well.

The schedule:

Oct 9: Little "Bread" Hen with Barefoot Puppets
Nov. 13: A Show of Virtues with Grey Seal Puppets
Dec. 11: Everybody's in the Band with Billy Jonas
Jan. 22: The Owl and the Turtle with Rags to Riches Theatre for Young Audiences
Feb. 26: Rockin' in the Forest with Farmer Jason
March 26: Haiku, Hip Hop and Hotdogs with Crabgrass Puppet Theatre
April 9: Hansel and Gretel with North Carolina Theatre for Young People
At last check, just the first two performances were posted on the museum's website. Click here for details and to buy tickets.
