2-year-old killed in Durham drive-by shooting remembered for big smile, cheerful personality

One of Durham's youngest victims of gun violence was remembered Thursday.

The funeral for 2-year-old Manariah Bradsher was held at Antioch Baptist Church in Durham.

Manariah's mother, Shycresha Spears, told WRAL News the toddler had a big smile and personality, which brought joy to people around her.

Manariah often would show her cheerful nature through her dance moves.

At the service, pink balloons, plush Minnie Mouse dolls and and a pink casket were on display along with large photos of Manariah. Some in attendance wore pink clothing.

Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead attended the service. There was a large police escort to the cemetery for the burial.

Birkhead released a statement after the service, commending Manariah for being a "fighter" in the hospital before her passing.

"Manariah’s death is tragic and reflective of what’s happening in our community," Birkhead said. "We need to come together and keep each other safe. That means making sure we prevent crime, support victims, and hold offenders accountable."

At this point, there have been no arrests in the case.

Manariah's obituary said she leaves behind many people, including her father and a brother in Burlington, her mother and 3- year-old sister in Durham, grandparents along with many aunts and uncles.

Durham police report that shots were fired at the Campus Crossings apartments along East Cornwallis Road on June 20. Manariah was taken to the hospital, where she died eight days later.

"Whoever did it, I just hope guilt eats you up inside-out," Spears told WRAL News. "You can't eat or sleep without thinking about her. Come forward and do what you need to do."
