Missing Granville County man found dead after months-long search by community, deputies

An 82-year-old man who had been missing for several months was found dead in Granville County over the weekend.

Eddie Harris went missing on Nov. 4. His body was found along Raleigh Road outside Oxford, according to Granville County Sheriff Robert Fountain Jr.

Harris was known as "Mr. Lawrence" to many in the community.

The sheriff's office does not suspect foul play in the death. A final determination will come from the medical examiner's office.

A WRAL report from December said Harris showed signs of undiagnosed dementia. But Harris’ sister said she doesn’t believe he wandered off. His sister said he had fallen just about a week before he went missing, making it difficult for him to walk very far. She also told WRAL they found Harris’ dog locked in the bathroom after he disappeared.
