A woman who was shot in the arm on Thursday afternoon was an innocent bystander, Goldsboro police said.

Police were called around 2:10 p.m. to the 1200 block of North George Street for a shooting. Before they arrived, a 47-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital by a friend.

Police said gunfire was exchanged between the occupants of a car driving on George Street and a pedestrian. The woman, who lives in the area, was not involved in the fight, police said.

The woman told police she was sitting on her front porch when she was shot by a stray bullet.

The woman was treated at Wayne UNC Healthcare and has been discharged.

Police did not release any information about suspects in the case.

the shooting comes hours after a 2-year-old boy was shot in the stomach while inside a vehicle in Goldsboro.
