BBQ restaurant moving into Transfer Co. Food Hall

A whole hog barbecue restaurant is moving into Transfer Co. Food Hall this summer.

Longleaf Swine BBQ announced via social media on Tuesday that it will open a smokehouse in an 840 square-foot space at the corner of East Davie Street.

"It's the front corner - the first thing you see when walking down Davie Street from downtown," co-owner Adam Cunningham said Wednesday. "You will definitely see us. You will for sure smell us."

It will be the company's first brick-and-mortar location. They have been operating as a food truck for more than two years. They do a regular pop-up service every Sunday at Foundation in Raleigh.

The Transfer Co. location, which is expected to open as early as July, will feature an L-shaped bar with 10 seats. The restaurant's barbecue smokers will be lined up against the wall.

Look for a mix of North Carolina and Texas style barbecue. There will be a Texas-style smoker so they can do lower cooking temperatures for briskets and sausages. The menu will also include eastern North Carolina style pulled pork, chopped barbecue, chicken quarters and spare ribs.

"I have been dreaming of this day since we thought of this crazy concept one night at Trophy Brewing after one too many beers. What started as an idea four years ago, turned into Longleaf Swine food trailer and will now give us the opportunity to be neighbors with some of the biggest names in North Carolina’s food and beverage scene," owners said via social media Tuesday. "We couldn’t be more excited to see what our future holds. Our goal has always been to serve damn good barbecue and showcase the great state of North Carolina’s bountiful produce. We’re so thankful to be able to continue to do so in a space that will be filled with great laughs, exaggerated stories, and long lasting memories. Longleaf Swine BBQ will join Transfer Co.'s other tenants Benchwarmers Bagels, Che Empanadas, Locals Oyster Bar, Burial Beer Co. and Captain Cookie and The Milkman, which are all now open.
