Wreck closes portion of Franklin Street in Chapel Hill

Authorities blocked both directions of East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill early Wednesday after a car crashed into a power pole.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Authorities blocked both directions of East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill early Wednesday after a car crashed into a power pole.

Chapel Hill police responded to the single-car wreck, which happened near the intersection with Boundary Street, at about 2:30 a.m. Traffic signals from Boundary Street to Raleigh Street were knocked out due to the wreck.

Utility crews were on scene early Wednesday, but it was unclear when the road would reopen. Drivers should avoid the area.

No information about the cause of the wreck has been released.
