Wind topples trees, heavy rain floods streets in central NC
A cold front that stretches from Massachusetts to Louisiana was working its way across North Carolina Wednesday afternoon, bringing heavy rains, damaging winds and the potential for flooding to several counties.

Wind toppled a tree in Cary, sending it crashing across Ralph Drive, hitting some power lines and a house, town officials said. Emergency dispatchers in Orange County were also receiving reports of trees down in Chapel Hill.
In Fayetteville, police issued a warning to drivers about flooding on Santa Fe Drive at Yadkin Road, Santa Fe Drive at Carson Road and Ramsey Street at Interstate 295.

Morning showers, heaviest along the North Carolina-Virginia border, gave way after noon to scattered thunderstorms. Areas along and east of the Interstate 95 corridor having the best chance at heavy rainfall.
High temperatures Wednesday climbed to the mid-70s before the rain began to fall.
"A lot of this shower activity is going to be hit or miss, but it will pick up throughout the afternoon," Gardner said.
Rainfall could total up to an inch or more in spots to the south and east of the Triangle, with the Raleigh-Durham area seeing closer to half an inch.
Once the front clears and clouds move out late Wednesday night, high pressure will move back in and create more "pretty spring weather" for the rest of the work week, Gardner said.
Sunshine will return Thursday and stay put through the weekend, with high temperatures fluctuating between the mid-70s and low 80s.
Overnight lows could dip into the upper 40s Friday and Saturday.
