RALEIGH, N.C. — Abundant sunshine will dominate central North Carolina Sunday, pushing temperatures into the mid 80s, but things could change slightly for the start of the work week.

"We will wake up to plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the upper 50s," said WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth.

Clouds could increase into the afternoon and evening hours Sunday, but temperatures are expected to reach 85 degrees.

Monday will start with temperatures in the 50s and reach into the low 80s.

"We do have a chance of an afternoon shower on Monday, especially for our north and northeastern counties," Wilmoth said. "We can't rule out the possibility of an isolated storm."

The chance of showers will stick around into Tuesday as afternoon highs fall back into the upper 70s.

Temperatures will dip slightly on Wednesday, but by the weekend highs across the area are expected to reach upper 80s.
