ASHEBORO, N.C. — A K9 deputy from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office was laid to rest last week.

Deputy Dan served with distinction and had an excellent career as a search K9, Sheriff Robert A. Graves said in a Facebook post.

According to the sheriff's office, Dan was not eating normally when he was initially taken to the vet. A tumor was found on his liver, spleen and kidneys. Dan was 4 years old.

He will be missed by "all of us here at the sheriff's office and by the community he served," Graves said.
