RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police were looking for clues Sunday in a car crash turned homicide investigation.

Officers were called to a wreck in the 3400 block of Capital Boulevard only to learn the driver of the car had been shot.

Police said Travis Donovan Rhodes' Ford Mustang was headed northbound when it veered across the median and the southbound traffic lanes before coming to stop along the side of the road just before midnight.

Rhodes was taken to WakeMed, where doctors found the gunshot wound to his torso. Rhodes died at the hospital, and the homicide investigation began.

Police distributed surveillance images of a man and vehicle they say may be clues to Rhodes' death. The images show a man wearing a blue baseball cap, blue T-shirt and gray pants. The vehicle in question is a light-colored General Motors SUV, such as a Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade.

Police asked that the man in the photos, or anyone who knows who he is, call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-4357 or to text or email a tip. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that help solve cases.
