A Raleigh man faces charges that he abused his girlfriend's 19-month-old toddler.

Police believe that Angelo Lovell Lofton Jr., 30, of 6907 Coventry Ridge Road, abused the girl while babysitting her on Friday, according to arrest warrants. The girl suffered liver and kidney damage, a laceration on her lip and bruises on her forehead, warrants state.

During the investigation, police also uncovered evidence they say links Lofton to attempts in May and July to set fire to an apartment in The Lakes complex, where he used to live, according to warrants.

Lofton was charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury and attempted first-degree arson. He was given a $75,000 secured bond and placed in the Wake County jail. If he meets his bond, he is ordered to have no contact with the toddler.
