Pedestrian struck, killed in Hope Mills

Officials say a woman died Friday after she was struck by a car in Hope Mills.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A woman died Friday after she was struck by a car in Hope Mills.

Around 9 p.m., officers with the Hope Mills Police Department responded to report of a car striking a pedestrian near the intersection of Cumberland Road and Applebury Lane.

The victim, 42-year-old Christina Blair Starling, of Stedman, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she died as a result of her injuries. Investigators say Starling was "completely in the roadway" when she was struck.

Monique Shante Clarke, 27, of Fayetteville, was driving the car.

Authorities say investigators found no indication of excessive speed or impairment, and charges have not been filed against Clarke.
