RALEIGH, N.C. — A visit to the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay Monday failed to convince Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., that the facility should be closed.

Burr traveled to Cuba with three other Republican senators to get a first-hand assessment of the site in response to President Barack Obama's executive order to close the detention facility within one year.

In a post on his blog, Burr praised the "professionalism and dedication" of those who work there. He wrote," Instead of focusing on closing the facility at Guantanamo Bay, we need to think long and hard about where we can hold some of these very hardened and dangerous individuals, many of whom could never be incarcerated in the United States."
