PAX, W.VA. — The sister of Duke University freshman basketball player Andre Dawkins was killed in a wreck in West Virginia this weekend.

Duke spokesman Matt Plizga said that Lacey Dawkins, 21, died, and Andre Dawkins' mother, Tamara Hill, was injured in the wreck.

An update on Hill's condition was not available Monday morning.

CBS affiliate WVNS reports that three other people were also injured in the multiple-vehicle wreck Saturday on Interstate 77 at mile marker 53, in Pax, W. Va.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Andre’s sister, Lacey,” head coach Mike Krzyzewski said Monday.

“Andre is a terrific young man and his family is very important to him. Our thoughts and prayers go out the entire Dawkins family during this trying time.”

Andre Dawkins, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, played for 21 minutes in Duke's victory over St. John's Saturday. His relatives were on the way to the game to see him play.

A native of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, he graduated early from Atlantic Shores Christian Academy in Virginia to enroll at Duke.

He was raised by Andre and Pamela Dawkins and has three younger siblings.

Dawkins has left the team to be with his family in Virginia.
