Shared gardening is a means to re-distribute surplus crops to those in need, Watley said.
"It's an effort to try to get everyone to pitch in a bit. If we can grow a little bit and give it to the neighbors, they eat; we eat," Whatley said. "It just seems like the way it should be or used to be."
After a full growing season, Watley has seen success, and hopes to build on that with Sunday's combination concert-fundraiser.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Main Street Park, 220 S. Main St. Singer-songwriter Kevin Wing will entertain first. Also scheduled to appear are: Old Avenue, John Goose, Moonfisher, Mister Felix, Jo Gore and the Alternative, and Lucky Draw. Admission is free. Grow and Share will sell tickets to be used toward the purchase of food, drinks, activities and raffles. All money raised will fund Grow and Share's efforts to fight hunger in Wake, Franklin and surrounding counties.
Grow and Share distributes vegetables every Saturday at Pilot Baptist Church in Zebulon.
