WALLACE, N.C. — A North Carolina National Guardsman who served as a police officer back home was killed in Iraq Sunday.

Emanuel Pickett died in a roadside bomb attack near Baghdad, according to media reports. It was his second tour of duty in Iraq.

The 34-year-old father of three worked as a police detective in Wallace in Duplin County. He joined the Wallace Police Department more than a dozen years ago.

Military officials could not confirm Pickett's death, following military policy not to announce soldiers' deaths until their family receives their body in the United States.

Funeral arrangements had not yet been made public.
