RALEIGH, N.C. — Crews were able to repair traffic lights at a Raleigh intersection that were damaged after an early Tuesday morning accident.

Authorrities said George Allen Clark, 60, of Harps Mill Road in Raleigh was traveling south on Falls of Neuse Road near Spring Forest Road when his vehicle crossed the northbound lanes and drove between a power pole and a tree. Clark's vehicle struck a traffic box that contains controls for the stoplights at that intersection.

Officers were out directing traffic in the area while crews conducted repairs. Initially, officials thought the repairs would last until Tuesday afternoon, but crews were able to finish the work sooner.

The accident also damaged a telephone box at the intersection, resulting in a loss of service.

Officers arrested Clark, who had fled the scene in another vehicle. Clark has been charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a revoked license and hit-and-run.
