Convenience Store Clerk Shot in Durham

DURHAM — Police rushed to a Durham convenience storeafter an apparent armed robbery attempt ended with a store clerk shot. Theshooting occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. At 11 p.m., investigatorsand emergency vehicles were still at the Stop One convenience mart onHolloway Street.

Police say someone entered the store and fired one shot which struckthe clerk in the head. He was sent to Duke Medical Center Hospital. As of11 p.m. he was still alive, but his condition was unknown.

There were several other customers inside the store at the time of theshooting along with at least one other clerk. One witness was a relativeof the wounded man. He accompanied police downtown to give a statement.

Police told WRAL'sMark Robertsthey are not sure if the shooting was part of a robbery attempt or theresult of some other dispute.
