One of them, Officer Steve Wauford, said, "You know, the ticket that I'm giving (drivers) is just like if you got stopped by a patrol car. There's no difference."
When the officers clock someone going faster than the posted speed limit, they make their move. They dart into traffic, get the driver's attention, and tell the person to pull over. Then, just like an officer in a patrol car, they call in the license and tags and write a ticket.
The mounted officers nab plenty of drivers. However, some days are busier than others.
"Sometimes it's like fish in a barrel," said Wauford. "Other times, nothing."
Many can't believe a horse stopped them.
Wauford said the reaction he gets is, "Usually disbelief. They're not usually paying a whole lot of attention to the fact that they're getting a ticket."
Fayetteville's mounted patrol has been around for almost 20 years. It includes five horses.
