Mobile Mammography Van Delivers Health Care To Triangle Women

Posted — Updated

RALEIGH — Rex's rolling doctor's office brings state-of-the-art mammograms to women who need them, but do not always have transportation or access to health care.

The RV will also be available at work sites, says Dee Burnett, program coordinator. Women can get a mammogram on their lunch hour and then return to work minutes later. The entire process takes around 15 minutes.

The films are examined at Rex and the results are sent to the patient and her doctor.

Insurance will most likely cover the cost, but Burnett says the servicesare available to all age-appropriate women, regardless of their ability to pay. Burnett says there are funds in place that allow Rex to provide the screening at no cost to the patient if necessary.

The mobile mammography unit should hit the highway in about a month and will travel within a 50-mile radius of Wake County.

If you are interested in having the RV come to your place of work, or if you want to know when it is going to be in your neighborhood, you can call (919) 784-4210.
