Raleigh Homeowners Unite To Prevent Traffic Sprawl

Posted — Updated

RALEIGH — Sprawling growth is changing lives and changing peace of mind all over theTriangle. A group of homeowners has come together to tryto ease the pain of progress in theirneighborhood.

With traffic coming off I-540, more lanes onCapital Boulevard and a mall connector road inthe mix, residents say turning off Jacqueline Lane will bedifficult anddangerous.

"I think a light and a cut-through would be thesafest thing to do in my opinion," says homeowner Rick Cary. "RemoveGresham Lake Road where it's at, move it up, coming throughthe other little outlet mall and have it directlyconnect to Jacqueline right across thestreet."

DOT engineers say there are no plans for a light, andit would be counterproductive to traffic flow on Capital Boulevard.

Homeowners know theycannot stop all that growth, but theydo not want it to come at the expense of their safety and their sanity.

"I can understand the fact that one road mighthave to suffer for the greater benefit ofeverybody, but if it gets dangerous out there, that's a whole differentstory. That's when we'll take serious action," says Peter Gramiak, president of the homeowners association.

The neighbors plan to start attending Raleigh City Council meetings tomake sure their voices are heard as the growth continues.
