KENLY — A local police chief has a strange case to solve -- his own pet's death.

Several cats have disappeared and been poisoned to death in Kenly -- a small town in northeastern Johnston County.

Thom Murphy, Kenly police chief, says his German shepherd also was likely poisoned with antifreeze. His wife came home and found their dog, Bear, collapsed in the backyard.

A veterinarian had to put him to sleep.
