Services Honor 6 Officers Who Died

DURHAM — North Carolina will remember six officers who were killed in the line of duty last year.

A memorial service will be conducted in Duke University Chapel this morning.

The ceremonies mark the beginning of National Peace Officers Memorial Week.

Deputy David Hathcock, Trooper Ed Lowry, Raleigh Detective Paul Hale, Sharpsburg Police Chief Wayne Hathaway, Morrisville Sergeant William Godwin, and Davidson officer Mark Swaney will be honored.

The trial for two brothers charged in the Hathcock and Lowry deaths is wrapping up in Fayetteville this week.
