DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham district attorney dismissed a murder charge against Demario Lamont Hampton, 27, at the request of law enforcement.

Hampton was arrested in October 2005 after the shooting death of an acquaintance, Michael Kenion.

Police said Kenion was involved in a confrontation inside Club 1000 at 118 West Main Street. After he left the club, police said four males approached Kenion on West Main Street and an argument followed.

Shots were fired, and then the four males fled in a dark green or black Ford Explorer and a white Ford Crown Victoria.

Hampton was initially charged with the crime, but those charges were voluntarily dismissed.
