N.C. License Fees To Increase Oct. 1

Posted — Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Motorists will begin paying more to operate a vehicle in North Carolina beginning Saturday, as new vehicle taxes and driver's license fees increase.

On Oct. 1, annual registration fees will jump from $20 to $28. Fees for regular driver's licenses will pay $4 per year.

The state Legislature hopes the increase will raise an additional $158 million in revenue for state highway and bridge maintenance, as well as renovations.

Legislators also raised more than a dozen other fees, including most titling fees.
