HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — A Holly Springs official accused of taking money from the town is back in jail.

Police say former athletic director David Smith overbilled the town for umpire services at local games, then pocketed the extra money.

Smith was initially taken to jail for six counts of forgery and embezzlement. Now, he faces 14 more charges, including identity theft.

Smith resigned from his position last week.
