Krzyzewski, 55, sustained the injury when he stood up suddenly in the first half of Duke's game vs. EA Sports.Because of increasing pain in his hip, he was unable to return for the second half of the game, according to Dr. Claude T. Moorman III, director of the Duke Sports Medicine Center and head team physician.
Coack K was taken to the emergency room at Duke Hospital where an MRI revealed an injury to his
iliopsoas muscle
-- the muscle that lifts his knee. As a precaution, he was admitted to the hospital overnight for observation.
The coach's recovery is expected to take seven to 10 days, but no surgery will be required. His progress will be monitored by the Duke Sports Medicine staff on a day-to-day basis. He will use crutches for up to three days.
The school was not sure of Coack K's status for Duke's Nov. 23 contest against Army.
The Hall of Fame coach had his right hip replaced March 27,his second hip replacement operation. His left hip was replaced in April 1999. Coach K missed most of the 1995-95 season following back surgery.
