Monks Come To Durham To Provide Peace, Healing

Posted — Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Tibetian monks from southern India are in the Bull City this week to create an atmosphere of peace and healing.

Shiwa monks are creating a sand mandala on the campus of North Carolina Central University. They begin by drawing a design on a piece of plywood and pouring colorful sand on the outline.

The project takes about two days to complete and less than an hour to destroy. On Thursday, the monks will destroy the design and pour the sand into the creek at the campus.
