According to the Johnston County Sheriff's Office, Ronnie Lewis shot his neighbor, Charles McCain.
Witnesses said McCain went over to Lewis' house to confront him about fondling himself in front of neighborhood children -- something Lewis had been arrested for doing before.
In the recording, McCain can be heard breaking into Lewis' home. Seconds later, police said Lewis shot and killed McCain.
"I saw him in the window, naked, staring straight at me, messing with himself," said a neighbor.
McCain, the father of a young child, apparently had enough. The 911 tapes revealed just how enraged he was. A short time later, McCain broke into Lewis' home.
Lewis was charged with one count of indecent exposure and two counts of indecent liberties against a child.
Whether Lewis will face murder charges may hinge on a state law that has been on the books for a long time. Statute 14-54.1 states a homeoweer may use deadly force against an intruder to prevent a break-in.
