SMITHFIELD, NC — An inmate working in the kitchen at the Johnston County Detention Center escaped Monday morning.

Authorities say 32-year-old Bryan Theodore Smith escaped by running out the kitchen delivery door around 5:15 a.m as a food staff member was receiving a milk delivery.

Smith is 6' tall and weighs about 185 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and a scar on his left hand.

The escapee was seen on foot in an orange jumpsuit in the Smithfield area, but he has since discarded the jumpsuit.

Smith's last known address is in Smithfield.

Smith has been jailed since May 17 on several misdemeanor charges, including credit card fraud and larceny of a motor vehicle.

Anyone with information about Smith or his whereabouts is asked to call the Johnston County Sheriff's Office at (919) 989-5000.
