FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The state budget problems seem to be contagious. Some nonprofit agencies in Fayetteville reportedly will soon feel the pinch of state cutbacks.
The city plans to withhold fourth-quarter payments totaling $130,000 from several nonprofit organizations. It is one way city leaders are trying to make up for the $2.9 million being withheld by the state.
The city has also put off plans to purchase new vehicles and build sidewalks and has implemented a hiring freeze.
