NC sees growth on AP exams, but 23 school districts cited for low performance
North Carolina public schools saw growth in AP participation and performance last school year, according to a report released Thursday. However, 23 school districts across the state have been deemed "target districts" due to problems with performance and participation on AP exams.

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina public schools saw growth in AP participation and performance last school year, according to a report presented to the State Board of Education on Thursday. However, 23 school districts across the state have been deemed "target districts" due to low performance and participation on AP exams.
- 18.7 percent increase of exam takers over last year (67,678 students)
- 19.1 percent increase of exams taken over last year (125,547 exams)
- 9.0 percent increase of examinees attained 3+ score over last year (63,837 exams)
- 53.9 percent of public school AP exam takers scored 3 or higher on at least one AP exam in May 2015

Schools on the targeted list get extra help from the state and the College Board, which handles the exams.
