Mebane man charged in fatal Chapel Hill shooting

A Mebane man was arrested Saturday in connection with a Friday shooting in Chapel Hill that left one person dead.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A Mebane man was arrested Saturday in connection with a Friday shooting in Chapel Hill that left one person dead.

The shooting occurred in the 100 block of South Estes Drive near Camelot Village Apartments around 2:45 p.m.

Dearie William Bourne, 21, of Chapel Hill, was wounded and died at UNC Hospitals.

Jermaine Malik Jahquan Chance, 21, was charged with first-degree murder, breaking and entering, larceny and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. He was being held without bond at the Orange County Jail.

Police didn't disclose a possible motive for the shooting.
